Advice from Neil Young

“It was then I knew I’d had enough,
Burned my credit card for fuel
Headed out to where the pavement turns to sand
With a one-way ticket to the land of truth”

- Neil Young, “Thrasher”

I heard this song again the other day and those lyrics meant something very different to me from the last time.  Since then I’ve had several clients bring in all their credit cards and cut them up after deciding to file bankruptcy.  Neil’s words are a reminder that if you are forced to take this route, you are not only shedding (shredding, even) your past, but you are going out into uncharted territory.  When you stop being forced to think about the debt every day (if not just because of your own guilt, but also by the 20 or 30 collection calls), you give yourself the opportunity for new thoughts, a new truth.  I have seen bankruptcy give clients the freedom to become who they are meant to become.  The powers that be don’t really want you to know that.

    Ron,
Enjoyed your blogs but especially wanted to mention the one with the Neil Young quote. I thought that was really cool and the tie in was great. Talk soon, Doug
